Hello Skegee Alum!
I am a class of 2008 graduate and I wanted to start this discussion to provide some form of awareness to vet school alum. Each year, most of us if not all look forward to the vet sympoium held in March. How would you feel if there was a possibility that there would be no more as soon as March 2009? For those of you who came down last year and heard the rehearsed presentation at the state of the school luncheon you proabbly think that the vet school is okay. Well its not. We have already lost four faculty and several others are threatening to leave. Why? Because there is a total disconnect between the students and faculty to administration. Grievances are no longer heard and in some cases suggetsions of change to aid the school have been completely ignored. Internal strife is extremly high and the learning/work environment is very hostile. As you all know we received partial accreditation that was contingent on passing the NAVLE with 80% and hiring of more staff. Well my class helped with an 86% passing rate, but with faculty leaving due to internal strife and firings due to personal vendetta, we are now a long way from heading in the right direction. I have talked to some clinicians who have completely given up, decided that the pay is not nearly enough to stay and deal with the drama, and have thus moved on to better positons with higher pay. Those who are left behind, those whom we thought would never uttered a negative word about Tuskegee are starting to unravel and are threatening to leave. Many alum after reading this discussion will probably become uprooted and upset....GOOD!!!! Hopefully your fire will cause you to investigate the issue, talk to your colleagues who are left and help Tuskegee before she disappears out of sight. YES IT IS THAT SERIOUS! My classmates fear that Tuskegee may be gone forever if we don't do something. The last thing we need is to fall privy to the AVMA and their requirements. At that point they do with whatever they want, like SHUTTING IT DOWN. The class of 2008 is willing to help and pioneer any advances to help keep Tuskegee here. The time to get mad and aggravted at the younger generations is over. You have to look past arrogance and understand that we love Tuskegee just as much as you do. The fact that we were at Tuskegee recently 100% of the time, makes our experinces and what you think is going on two completely different things. Please, we need to rally together and decide what to do as a group. When we only come to TU sympoisum to drink, reminisce and go home without getting the gritty information, we reach a point in which we have this very moment. Please any suggestion would be greatly appreciated it. PLEASE, don' let the very college that allowed you to full fill your childhood dream be denied to someone else.
Peace.
